Less than two months ago, the GOP passed a $1.5 trillion tax cut in which billionaires get the vast majority of benefits, while the majority of middle class get something like $18/ week.
Oh, and those in poverty got nothing at all.
Now in their latest bid at cartoon supervillainy they’re aiming to save some fund where? By cutting FOOD STAMPS!
The Donald Trump administration’s latest “eff you” to the poor is a proposal that replaces about half of the country’s food stamp benefits( about 81% of participants in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program ), in which they can choose which foods they buy, with a box of food sent right to their home.
White House budget director Mick Mulvaney compared the relevant recommendations to Blue Apron, the meal-kit delivery services that are mails subscribers gourmet recipes and ingredients.
Something tells us the ingredients — which would consist of “shelf-stable” items like juice, pasta, canned meat, and beans — would be a bit less fancy than “Salmon and Dukkah-Spiced Vegetables with Orange and Endive.”
Remember when Republican to fight against government overreach? Like when they canceled Michelle Obama‘s healthy school lunch program last year because it tried to tell people what food give their children?
But now it’s fine to tell people what to eat. Huh.
In any case, according to some critics the new program wouldn’t even end up saving fund after all!
FMI chief public policy policeman Jennifer Hatcher explained 😛 TAGEND
“Perhaps this proposal would save money in one report, but based on our decades of experience in the program, it would increase expenses in other areas that would negate any savings.”
One group that would be upset by the new scheme( one that isn’t poor people or those with empathy for them we mean — one that Trump might actually listen to) is big supermarkets.
For instance, this could end up costing stores like Walmart, which apparently gets 20% of food stamp marketings currently, billions in revenue. Walmart is also one of the biggest employers in the country, so if they have to lay off tons of laborers, guess who’s going to sign up for food stamps?
What do YOU think of this plan ??
